I know everybody must be on the edge of their seats waiting for a sofa update.
Well it turned out a treat.
Though admittedly not one of those little Sunday afternoon jobs you can just whip up.
Well maybe some could.
It took me hours. And then some.
Here's the before:
I started with three canvas painter's dropsheets from Bunnings.
Gave them a wash.
And started pinning, cutting and sewing.
What felt like 7.6 kilometres of piping,
and 17.3 kilometres of stitching,
and that's before the material turned up for the cushions.
The sewing machine's been a permanent fixture on the end of the dining room table.
But we're all loving it sick (according to the young'uns).

I love it! I can't believe you made that from drop sheets. So clever. And the cushions are great - they must have been rather enjoyable to make after all that piping. Always good when the kids give you their tick of approval :-)
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous. You are a very very very clever lady!
ReplyDeleteI thought to myself 'If Fiona made the cushions as well I really am going to boycott this blog'..... but I can't bring myself to do that :) I am the Gets Birds' Nest Knots While Sewing On A Button type so I am SO impressed. Do you have 48 hours in a day in Australia or is there some logical explanation as to how you achieve so much? I trust your dear husband is in total awe of you!
ReplyDeleteGee
LOL Gee... my thoughts exactly!! Too darned clever by half... and loving that cake!!

Love it Fiona! Looks fantastic. Inspiring, as always.
ReplyDeleteWell done. I am very impressed. You are a woman of many talents!
ReplyDeleteVery professional. You are very talented.
ReplyDeleteLooks just fantastic, what a great idea Bunnings drop sheets, may I copy have a tired lady to cover and have been looking at the price of fabric!! Great job
ReplyDeleteThe sofa turned out absolutely perfect!!! I love the blue in the pillows.
ReplyDeleteis anyone allowed to sit on it now, after all of that work?
ReplyDeletePIPING!!!! what gave you that mad notion (once you start you gotta keep going) and then, after doing the whole couch, you still had to pipe the cushion covers as well!!
But man, it looks AWESOME!! Loving the cushion fabric sick as well. And the little stool side table looks perfect there too.
Lord help anybody who dare sit on it Sharon.
DeleteDid you spray the heck out of it with that non-stain stuff?
Deleteps what did the big fella say? ;-)
ReplyDeleteDon't think he's noticed yet.
DeleteI noticed the piping too! Well done Fiona, it has turned out brilliantly.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, what has caught my eye is your lamp ... is it hand turned by any chance? I am looking for a base just like it - the man about the house could make one - but waiting and wanting don't seem to go together! Plus, I did find one last year - for the cool price of $1000 and that's not in my budget right now! Anyway, if it was a purchase - any chance of sharing where?
The lamp was hand-turned Amy, but I've had it for maybe fifteen years, a gift from my mother-in-law ... bought at the markets at Maryborough, so maybe not terribly helpful for you. Google wood turners perhaps.
DeleteThanks Fiona - we have some lovely markets set up specifically for work workers etc - I might head on over to one soon and check it out.
DeleteWow it looks amazing!! ~Love Heather
ReplyDeleteWow! So much piping!!! I have heard tell of the great properties of the Bunnings drop sheet but never seen it done to this level of finish. Nice work, Fiona. Fully sick!
ReplyDeleteLove love love it Fiona......well done and drop sheets what an outstanding idea! I'm very impressed this is not a task I would have ever contemplated but you have me inspired!
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing on a loooong sofa..Took days and days ,but worth it...
ReplyDeleteHow long did THAT take?!? Looks amazing, well done. Mare.
ReplyDeleteCan you please at least pretend there's something you can't do (even if you may not have actually found that 'something'yet).
ReplyDeleteWow looks great. Definitely worth every step of the 24.9 kms for sure. Our lounge needs a bit of something but it is a bit past it.
ReplyDeleteI love it. You are one clever girl. X
ReplyDeleteWow, clever you. It looks fabulous. You tackle things I wouldn't dream of attempting.
ReplyDeleteSpeechless Fiona. That looks AMAZING! Well done. So talented and fab use of drop sheets.
